Spots You Should Not Miss Inside Jaipur’s Amber fort

Amber fort is the most famous landmark of Jaipur which is visited by millions of tourists every year from all over the world. It is magnificent and was built meticulously by Raja Man Singh I in the 16th century. He was the Kacchwaha (Rajput) King of Amber, a state which is now known as Jaipur. It is located high on a hill. Diwaan-e-Aam and Diwaan-e-Khaas

The king used to listen about issues and complaints of people in a beautiful hall known as ‘Diwan-e-Aam’ or the ‘Hall of Public Audience’. The hall has two rows of ornamented pillars and it opens on 3 sides. There is another hall known as ‘Diwan e-Khaas’ or the ‘Hall of Private Audience’. The hall has amazing mosaic work in glass. Here, the king used to meet ministers, guests from other states and his special friends.

Sheesh Mahal

There is a mirror palace inside the fort known as ‘Sheesh Mahal’. It is the most illustrious and beautiful part of the fort. The huge walls and ceiling of the hall is imprinted with beautiful paintings and flowers made with pure glass. There is an interesting folklore about the reason behind use of glass in building such halls. It is said that in those days the queen was not allowed to sleep in open air and she wanted to see the shining stars. Therefore, the king ordered his architects to make a hall that could solve the purpose. They came with this design. Now, if someone lights two candles here, the reflection converts that small light into thousand stars.

Sukh Mandir (Residence of Pleasure)

Opposite to ‘Diwaan-e-Khaas’ there is a part known as Sukh Niwaas. Its doors are made of sandal wood and ivory. The place was made in such a way that the area shall remain cool. The kings used to spend time here with their queens. The rooms were designed so that the king could visit his wives and concubines in different chambers without the others knowing.
